It is required that you bring a laptop with Android Studio already installed. Android Studio can take a long time to download so we will be unable to wait at the beginning of the workshop. Make sure you also install the required SDK tools, java items, and emulator tools. For more information, visit the links below. To test that all these things are present, you can follow the steps below. If you have any problems, Android Studio will point them out to you and prompt you to download further tools.

- Open Android Studio and create a new project: File > New > New Project (select "add no activity," but don't worry about other settings right now)
- File > New Activity > Add Empty Activity (make sure "generate layout file" is checked)
- Click the green run arrow and select an emulator as a deployment target (you may have to follow steps to create one). If a phone pops up on your screen, you're all set.
