IEEE Robotics

Where: 308 Snell Engineering
IEEE Robotics - Learning to control them before they control us!
Robots are everywhere - vacuuming our floors, flying around blowing up mountains, even building other robots.
This spring, Northeastern IEEE would like to introduce our Robotics Group, a new home for budding tinkerers and technologists!
This group will be dedicated to learning about, building, and refining robots to do our bidding.
On Wednesday, Sean Mayo (VP, Div N) will lead a discussion to brainstorm the types of robots we can build, and what functions we want them to perform.
System components will be outlined - robots include power electronics, servo and motor control, mechanical design, microcontroller programming, sensor design, software algorithms - basically something for everyone!
Come tomorrow, and bring your visions of robotic overlords with you. (Aka, bring project ideas)
Note: As always, there will be free pizza and drinks!

Weekly Meeting - Music and Perception
Written on November 13th, 2008 by Jeff
When: November 19th, 2008 at 11:45am
Where: 308 Snell Engineering
Advances in signal processing and Electrical Engineering have driven many aspects of musical performance and recording as well as audio packaging, compression, and transmission. This presentation will highlight the history s, changes in recording technology, and advances in signal processing and will examine how these changes have shaped the way we hear and understand music today. This will include a blend of technical, perceptual, and historical perspectives.
Biography:
Michael Epstein received his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Northeastern University in 2004. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and head of the Auditory Modeling and Processing Laboratory. His research focuses on bridging auditory physiology and perception. Epstein also performs regularly as the singer and guitarist in his band The Motion Sick.
Weekly Meeting - Graduate School Info Session

-Differences between undergrad and grad
-Financing grad school
Then Prof. DiMarzio will go over a University's perspective on the same topics above.
As always, there will be FREE PIZZA at this meeting.
Biographies:
Anton Geiler received BS, MS and is currently pursuing his PhD in Electrical Engineering all at Northeastern University. His research is in the area of magnetic materials and microwave devices at the Center for Microwave Magnetic Materials and Integrated Circuits led by Professors Vincent Harris and Carmine Vittoria.
Prof. DiMarzio holds a BS in Engineering Physics (University of Maine), MS in Physics (WPI), and Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering (Northeastern University). He teaches graduate courses in optics, and a variety of undergraduate courses including engineering design, electronics and subsurface sensing & imaging. He has been on several admissions committees for both undergraduate and graduate admissions.
Its official!
Written on November 3rd, 2008 by Jeff
It's officially official. The website is now mostly complete. This news post is to officially welcome you to the new IEEE website, complete with user profiles (for anyone who registers, and did I mention that registering is FREE?) and other nifty things.
You can set up your options to change the dates around to your liking (for all those international members who like their dates in DD/MM/YYYY or YYYY/MM/DD format). In these news posts, it is where you will see detailed information about meetings, not just who is speaking and the title, it will be a bit more (read: much much more) descriptive. Anyway, I ramble a bit too much...
Welcome to the new site!
