This week we have Sheng Li from NU SMILE Lab coming in to give an introductory talk about Machine Learning. We also plan on giving details about the upcoming officer election. As usual, there will be pizza and drinks. See you then!
Machine learning is a powerful tool for processing big data. In this talk, I will briefly introduce the concepts and applications of several machine learning techniques, including supervised learning (classification), unsupervised learning (clustering), semi-supervised learning and transfer learning. Many interesting applications of these techniques will also be discussed.
Sheng Li, a second-year PhD student in Computer Engineering at Northeastern University. He obtained his BS degree and MS degree in computer science from Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications in 2010 and 2012, respectively. He has published 20 research papers. He is the recipient of Best Student Paper Honorable Mention Award from IEEE FG 2013, and Student Travel Award from SDM 2014. His research interests include machine learning and data mining.
