Barry L. Shoop will begin serving as IEEE President on 1 January 2016. Barry is Professor of Electrical Engineering and Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. During his 20 years at West Point he has served in a number of key leadership positions including Director of the Photonics Research Center and Director of the Electrical Engineering Program. He received a B.S. from the Pennsylvania State University in 1980 and Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1992, both in electrical engineering. His research interests include optical information processing, neural networks, image processing, disruptive innovations and educational pedagogy.
