First Meeting - Spring 2014

Welcome back members to another semester of IEEE!

The first meeting is this week and we will be kicking off the semester with some exciting announcements about plans for the spring semester, followed by a couple of ice-breakers over pizza. We will then have a friendly game of ECE-based Jeopardy with small prizes to take home.


Guest Speaker: Denis Foley, NVIDIA

This week we, have Denis Foley from NVIDIA coming to speak at IEEE!

Denis Foley is a Senior Director in NVIDIA’s GPU Architecture team. He leads a team of architects in NVIDIA’s Westford, MA office charged with developing internal fabric and GPU interconnect for a number of upcoming products with a particular emphasis on High-Performance Computing solutions. Prior to NVIDIA, Denis was a Senior Fellow at ATI/AMD where he was responsible for the development of a modular SOC architecture. He was the SOC architect for several of AMD’s initial Fusion APUs. He was the system architect for ATI’s first ARM based applications processor. Prior to ATI/AMD Denis was a Distinguished Engineer at HP/Compaq/Digital Equipment where he was the implementation lead for a high-end Itanium based machine. Denis has a BEng (Elect) degree from the University College Cork, Ireland.

This is going to be a great talk, so make sure to be there! As usual there will be (delicious) pizza and drinks. See you then!

We've made it to the last week of the semester and we saved the best for last!

We invited Thomas Druan as our final speaker event of the semester. He is an IP Attorney with a background in Mechanical Engineering and he will be presenting about Intellectual Property for Engineers. So if you're interested in learning how to patent your ideas (or even your Capstone in the future!) make sure to come to this meeting!
